It was a cold and dark evening down at Lowton High School but that didnt stop our new Under 7's enjoying their first training session.
We started the session with some jogging and sprints to warm up and then moved onto our drills for the evening:
1. A game of bulldog using parents/coaches as obsticles to make the kids use their footwork and even the odd hand off.
2. Play the ball - each taking turns at each role in the process.
3. Ball in our hands and worked on our passing with a drill where the kids were working in pairs following each other passing and collecting balls. This drill not only develops handling skills but encourages the kids to communicate with each other.
4. Finally a game with a difference, 1 attacker and lots of defenders! This is to teach the kids that if they hold their defensive line there is no where for the attacker to run but if the line is broken - try time!
Overall it was a good first session for the team and as usual all the kids enjoyed themselves and were disappointed when it was home time. The team has been entered into a competition which is to be held at Padgate Campus on Saturday the 27th of February. This has proved to be an excellent event in previous years and it would be much appreciated if we could all rally together and come down to support our new Under 7's and the older age groups that have been entered from Culcheth Eagles.
Dont forget if your child is year 1 or 2 and is interested in playing in this years U7's get yourself down to Lowton High School on Wednesday evening @ 17:45 for a 18:00 start.
