Match Report - 17/08/2014 - Accrington Panthers (Home)

Culcheth came into the last scheduled home game of the season looking to go out on a high against an Accrington side struggling of late.

At the start of the game, the Eagles wrestled a good early advantage and deservedly opened the scoring with Liam Pleavin stealing the ball in a one-on-one tackle before crashing over the line. The wind sent Jack Glover's conversion atttempt wide of the posts.

Geroge Bradburn was the next to score, finising off a fine run from his own half and side-stepping defenders on the way to placing the ball between the posts. Liam Pleavin slotted the easier conversion.

From a scrum 20 yards out, stand-off Tom Disley was forced out wide by the Accrington defence but there was no stopping him finishing off the move. Liam Pleavin made the conversion and the Eagles were ahead 16-0.

The first half scoring was rounded off by Liam Pleavin who took a short pass and crashed over the line. Jack Glover good with the conversion and the teams turned around with the Eagles 22 points up and cruising.

George Bradburn was dismissed after retalliating to a perceived offence in the tackle and the Eagles had to re-arrange to deal with being a man down again.

Liam Pleavin completed his hat-trick with another short crash over the line, the conversion being missed.

There were two sides in the match, however and the Panthers were able to impose themselves more as the second half went on, scoring back-to-back tries and making one conversion to make the score 26-10.

Brad Morris marked another good performance with a try and the Liam Pleavin had the final word, slotting over a drop goal to finish the scoring.

This result puts the Under-18's 6th in the league, equal on points with two other sides and their next match against the Leyland Warriors could put them up to fourth for the end of the season.
